- The County Courthouse in Hermitage is located at Main & Polk Streets. Phone 417-745-6450.
Recorder's Office has marriage records from 1872 (indexed), deed records from 1846 (indexed), circuit court records from 1858 (indexed), the
minutes of the circuit court (not indexed), and WWI military discharges.
Probate Clerk's Office has probate records from 1849 (indexed from
1870). The settlement packets from these records are kept at the Hickory
County Library.
County Clerk's Office has birth records (1883-1889), death records (1883-1889), and school records from 1915.
- Hickory County Historical Society, located on Museum Street in Hermitage, includes a museum and research room, as well as
copies of their publications for sale. Open by appointment. Phone 417-852-4333.

- Hickory County Library
has copies of most of the above publications; the 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses
and mortality schedules; a number of local family histories; a microfilm reader
and films of probate records and newspapers (through 1920); original probate

- The Polk County Genealogical Society, located in Bolivar, has a research library. Check
their website for hours of operation and contact information.
- In Springfield, about 50 miles south, there are two good genealogy libraries, The Ozarks Genealogical Society operates a
library and publishes a quarterly periodical, Ozar'kin (1979-present). On the south side of Springfield is the
Springfield-Green County Library, which contains a wonderful Local History & Genealogy room. Check their website to see the breadth
and depth of genealogical resources available.
- North of Hickory County, the Mid-Continent Public Library in Independence (just East of Kansas City) includes a large collection of materials, both
in print and on microfilm, of Missouri resources.
- In Jefferson City, the state capitol, are the Missouri State Archives, which contains both paper and
microfilmed records from Hickory County. Check their Local Records County Inventory Database to see what
specific records they have available.
- The State Historical Society of Missouri is located in Columbia, on the University of Missouri campus. They have both a sizeable library
of Missouri historical and genealogical published works AND Missouri's Newspapers on Microfilm collection. Microfilmed newspapers can be requested through interlibrary loan to use at
